Adopt a Pug (short coat)

Pug (short coat) Dog

Marty the Dog needs a home

Marty was transferred from a local shelter where he was an owner surrender.  He is 10 years old, potty trained and has been brought up to date on Rabies, DHLLP, Bordetella, heartworm, blood and fecal testing.  He has worms and has been treated for them.   He had severe dental issues and has had his teeth cleaned with many extractions.  He suffered from bilateral ear infections and is currently being treated for that.  He has been placed on a rigid diet for weight loss.  He was reported to be food and toy aggressive and did not like his feet touched.  These tendencies have not been observed.  In fact at events he likes to sit on peopless laps.  When someone attempts to leave that has been paying attention to him, he will place his 2 front paws around their legs to try to keep them from leaving.  He is very active for a 10 year old and enjoys being close to you and loved.  He has weakness in his hind quarters which may be the beginning of Pug Myopathy.  Marty saw the Neurologist on 2/6/17.  An MRI and x-rays were done.  The test showed part of his issues are birth defects and the remainder are from years of untreated bulging discs.  He has been placed on Prednizone for a week to ascertain if the drug will help.  If that is the case he will remain on a reduced regimen over time.  There is no surgery planned.  The Neurologist feels that surgery could result in worsening his condition.  He is in no pain and is responding to Glyco-flex III. His weight loss is up to 9 pounds which also seems to be helping his condition.   He seems to have improved with his mobility.  His prognosis is guarded by the Neurologist.

12/7/17;  Marty has now been with the rescue for a year.  He has lost a significant amount of weight resulting in a significant improvement in his mobility.  He now has the ability to raise his leg when urinating, stand on his back legs when asking to be on your lap and runs around in the yard.  He is on Glyco-Flex III daily which also has helped with his mobility issues.
